Heart of the Swarm is first expansion for Starcraft 2. Base game was masterfully executed, and this one improves upon that when possible, making it even better in some areas. The Story of this expansion unfolds two major plots. One of the plots involves Kerrigan’s fight against Mengsk, and the other plot is about the Zerg. Mengsk’s story is pretty straight forward but the entire game is not just about him. The game is also centered around the Zerg race. We didn’t know much about them before.

I was very impressed they made it a point to update the multiplayer aspect of the game because it was getting stale by the end of Heart of the Storm.

Even a full twelve years after its release there are still legions of dedicated players around the world. Its impact on competitive gaming and the RTS genre cannot be understated. It was the standard bearer for the strategy games, featuring a mix of balance, atmosphere, and penchant for epic multiplayer battles that had never been seen before.

There are 5 speeds to chose from: Slower, Slow, Normal, Fast and Faster. Faster is the default speed for custom and ladder matches. In the campaign, the game speed cannot be altered when playing at Brutal difficulty. All tooltips are written based on Normal speed so when playing on Faster, they are incorrect in terms of real-time seconds. For example, the MULE tooltip says that it lasts for 90 seconds, but in a standard game on Faster, it will last The way the game handles speed changes is simple.
Instead of having different build-times coded between speeds, the game will run faster or slower depending on the speed chosen. The inaccuracy with timing and tooltips can also be seen during replays. When you finish a game, it will tell you how long the match lasted in real-time. However, when you load the replay, it will display the length of the game as if it was played on Normal speed.
When calculating APM in replays, the game will take the actions per in-game minute. This means if you are playing on Faster, it will be calculating your actions per 43 seconds or so. A rough guide for the differences between speed is below.

up vote 12 down vote favorite I use to play a lot of 2v2 and 3v3 with random people vs A.I. on hard or very hard slowly working my way towards the Supreme Command achievement. But with Heart of the Swarm they changed it so that when you choose to play vs AI from the Matchmaking menu it sets the difficulty depending on how you preform vs A.I.
The focus is whether the ranking system used for matchmaking should be different to the displayed rank for player satisfaction. I like a lot of his conclusions, but found this quote a little odd: Microsoft [through TrueSkill] makes another good point here that ONLY winning and losing can be allowed to affect these stats. You can’t adjust the matchmaking stat by “experience points” or even by any skill-based stats such as headshots, number of kills, time to finish a lap in racing, etc.
All those stats can be gamed, and you will end up trying to get more headshots or something instead of winning. If we want to know how likely you are to beat someone, we should only consider your wins and losses, and not any in-game stats. When looking at a mathematical ranking system this makes sense, but it doesn’t make sense if you are purely interested in efficient matchmaking.
Starcraft starts off and all players have no wins or losses and no stats.

Now we have StarCraft II, another masterpiece of game design and again, a near-perfect update of the original that extends and enriches the core experience in dozens of minor but important ways.
Let’s start with the single player campaign and story, which in the hands of many other studios would be irrelevant or ham-fisted and inept. Blizzard is, unsurprisingly, in fine form, with richly conceived and executed cinematics and in-game cut scenes that pick up the story of freedom fighter Jim Raynor, four years after the events of the original StarCraft.
Kerrigan, Arcturus Mengst and a number of other, familiar characters return in this first installment of what will be a three-game series. Raynor’s fight to bring down the corrupt Terran Dominion is told through a series of beautifully paced and dramatically effective missions. The introduction of these RPG elements and the missions structure are probably the biggest changes to the StarCraft formula, but they work well to add an element of coherence to the campaign by dramatizing the reasons you’re going to battle and why it matters.
